FYI: Meetup is a website and an app (in my opinion the app needs work) where each group has a theme in an area (example Pittsburgh hiking group) and does events related to that theme.  Some meetups are social, some are just informative.   These are the more active meetup groups in the area.  A useful way to meet new people and do new things.
